There is tremendous prospect for IT Professionals in various sector of the Industry when the incumbent may or may not have any experience in that particular Industry. The reason being the supply is low whereas the demand is high. It is now a candidate’s market.
However, due to economic slowdown in 2008 , it appeared to have slowed down the pace of IT hiring in all sectors. It seems there was a big boom in 2007 in the Insurance sector for hiring IT professionals like many other sectors of the Industry.

Pay for IT personnel in Insurance sector varies widely. Some time the package is not attractive enough for the top talent. But, with a mission critical project , the Insurance sector offers will be above average .
